Moderna rally accelerates before ESMO as traders watch for signs of exhaustion
Investors are once again pricing greater confidence in Moderna’s cancer vaccine program into the stock. From here, fresh developments could either extend the rally or give traders a reason to lock in profits quickly.
Moderna reported that the full Phase 3 data from INTerpath-001, a study of the investigational individualized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran autogene, which Moderna is developing with Merck, will be released on October 24 as part of a Presidential Symposium at the ESMO 2026 conference. The Phase 3 trial assesses the combination of intismeran + Keytruda compared to Keytruda alone.
The company will also present Phase 1 data on intismeran in pancreatic cancer, along with an update on its Phase 3 program in high-risk early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. Moderna plans to hold a separate investor webcast after the main October 24 presentation.

Moderna approaches resistance as technical overheating builds
MRNA set another local high on September 21 but failed to extend the advance convincingly or establish itself above $176. Profit-taking picked up soon after the stock reached short-term highs.
The previous analysis had already flagged elevated volatility and signs of overheating after an 8.02% advance. Those risks have only become more pronounced since then.
Resistance now sits at $176.86. A sustained break above that level could give the rally another push toward $188.50.
The technical picture is becoming stretched, however. The RSI (14) is in overbought territory and is forming a bearish divergence. The distance from the moving averages is even more striking: MRNA is trading roughly 72% above its 50-day SMA and 183% above its 200-day SMA.
Given that degree of extension, a correction toward $150 remains the base-case scenario.
October data becomes the next major test for Moderna
Moderna’s next major fundamental catalyst is already on the calendar. On October 24, investors will get the detailed Phase 3 intismeran results that could provide a much clearer view of the commercial potential of the company’s oncology platform.
Until then, expectations around the cancer program may continue to support the stock. But the higher MRNA climbs without fresh clinical evidence, the more exposed it becomes to profit-taking. A widening gap from its moving averages increases the risk of a sharp correction even if the underlying fundamental story remains intact.
