The 10-year UK gilt yield has risen to around 5.36%, its highest level since 2007, while the 30-year yield has moved above 5.89%, a level not seen since 1998. Financing conditions at these levels remain a significant headwind for the UK equity market.

Inflation is adding further pressure. UK CPI accelerated to 3.1% in August, well above the Bank of England’s 2% target, while the BoE itself expects price pressures to strengthen further over the coming quarters. The central bank kept rates unchanged at 3.75% in September, but the vote split 6–3, with three MPC members already backing an increase to 4.0%. The market curve is also pricing in the possibility of further tightening, with rates seen reaching around 4.9% by the end of 2027.

Rolls-Royce stays trapped between GBX 1,450 and 1,500

Rolls-Royce’s technical structure has changed very little since the previous analysis. The shares continue to trade within the previously identified GBX 1,450–1,500 range, offering no sustained signal in favour of either buyers or sellers.

As long as the price remains below GBX 1,500, the risk of a pullback towards GBX 1,420 remains in place. For that scenario to gain traction, however, sellers would first need to push the shares below the lower boundary of the current consolidation and establish a sustained hold beneath GBX 1,450.

On the upside, GBX 1,500 remains the key level for confirming a fresh bullish impulse. A sustained move above it for at least one full trading session would validate a breakout from the range and increase the likelihood of further gains towards the next resistance area near GBX 1,550.

For now, while Rolls-Royce remains between GBX 1,450 and 1,500, the technical picture stays neutral. A clearer directional move is likely to emerge only after a decisive break from this zone.

A fresh catalyst is needed to break the range

The lack of new corporate developments does not weaken Rolls-Royce’s broader fundamental case, but it temporarily leaves the shares without a fresh company-specific driver. In that environment, price action is more likely to be shaped by technical levels and broader sentiment across the aerospace and defence sector.

The next move is therefore likely to be defined by a break from the GBX 1,450–1,500 range. Until that happens, consolidation may continue.
