The main development for BT remains its acquisition of TalkTalk and PlatformX. The UK Competition and Markets Authority issued a pre-emptive action order covering BT, TalkTalk and PlatformX, with details published through the London Stock Exchange on 7 October. The CMA is continuing its review of the completed transaction and is due to submit its report to the government by 19 October.

At the same time, BT is gaining another potential long-term growth avenue. The Financial Times has highlighted BT among European telecoms groups seeking to benefit from rising demand for data centres and sovereign cloud infrastructure. Demand for locally hosted and processed data is increasing as European companies and public-sector organisations look to reduce their reliance on US hyperscalers.

GBX 200–203 remains the key barrier to BT’s recovery

BT Group shares are once again approaching the levels that could determine whether the recovery can accelerate. As noted previously, the GBX 200–203 area combines horizontal resistance with both the 50-day and 200-day SMAs.

That concentration of technical barriers makes the zone particularly difficult to clear.

If the shares can establish a sustained move above GBX 200–203, the recovery could extend towards the next resistance level near GBX 210.

If buyers fail to break through, however, the price could retreat towards GBX 191, where the next important support level is located.

Regulatory clarity could become BT’s next fundamental catalyst

BT’s fundamental picture now combines potential upside with fresh risks. The TalkTalk acquisition could strengthen the company’s position in the UK broadband market, but uncertainty around the deal will remain until the regulatory review is completed.

At the same time, the development of sovereign cloud and data-centre infrastructure gives BT another long-term growth opportunity. In the near term, attention will be split between the regulatory outcome for TalkTalk and whether the shares can finally clear the dense GBX 200–203 technical zone.
