AI asset bid and CTO hire reshape sentiment as tech focus intensifies

Disney has been named the stalking horse bidder for $20 million worth of selected assets and intellectual property from AI chatbot developer Character.AI, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. District of Delaware on October 12, 2026, according to Deadline. The proposed deal would give Disney a non-exclusive perpetual license to certain Character.AI assets, subject to a court-supervised auction process. This move comes shortly after Disney appointed former Character.AI CEO Karandeep Anand as its first Chief Technology Officer, signaling a deepening focus on technology and AI initiatives.

Overbought momentum builds as price tests new highs in tight weekly range

On the daily chart, the structure is biased higher, with Disney stock at the very top of its weekly range as buyers maintain control. Momentum signals are stretched: the RSI at 60.26 is approaching overbought, and both CCI and Stochastic RSI are firmly in the overbought zone, which warns of possible exhaustion. Bull/Bear Power also signals an overbought condition, while volatility remains moderate at 2.45% over the past week. Support sits at $110.16, while the next resistance is unmarked in the data, suggesting price is testing new highs within a contained move and a narrow range.

Upside bias holds if $110.16 support survives in the coming week

For the coming trading week, the expected range is $105.45 to $112.48, with a 73% probability of an increase and 27% probability of a decrease. The base case sees the stock consolidating above $110.16 support. A bullish extension above $112.48 would indicate further breakout momentum. If price falls below $110.16, the setup turns vulnerable to a larger pullback toward the lower end of the expected range.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that shares of The Walt Disney Company advanced just over 3% this week, fueled by strong buying momentum to new highs around $111. However, he observes that most daily momentum oscillators, including RSI at 60.26, CCI, and Stochastic RSI, are now firmly overbought, hinting at exhaustion as buyers test these levels. The analyst highlights Disney’s designation as the stalking horse bidder for key Character.AI assets and the hiring of its former CEO as CTO, signaling a shift toward technology and AI in the company’s fundamental direction. He sees risk for a pullback if $110.16 support is lost, but expects consolidation within the projected $105.45 to $112.48 range in the coming week. Upside breakouts above $112.48 are possible, but a larger pullback can develop on a support break. "Current conditions look stretched, so I remain cautious and await a decisive move beyond the $110.16–$112.48 band before committing to a new position."

Previously it was reported that Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and agreed to sell selected assets to Disney as part of a court-supervised process. Disney's involvement in the asset acquisition, alongside the technical leadership hires, introduces additional upside risk for the stock should AI integration initiatives accelerate beyond the current trading range.
