Midday trading highlights earnings swings, analyst calls across U.S. stocks
Earnings swings shake midday trade

Midday U.S. trading is being driven by a mix of quarterly earnings reactions, guidance changes and analyst rating moves across technology, fintech, energy and healthcare names. Gains in Coinbase, Bloom Energy and Fiserv contrast with declines in Apple, Shopify and Palantir as investors reassess revenue trends, margins and outlooks.

Highlights

  • Coinbase rallies 8% despite weaker Q3 trading volumes, a downgraded Morgan Stanley rating, and a 53% price target cut.
  • Fiserv jumps 12% on Q3 adjusted earnings of $1.75 per share beating estimates and a new $500 million Q4 stock repurchase program.
  • Palantir slips 2% despite beating Q3 earnings expectations, as U.S. commercial revenue surges 148% to $984 million and Q4 guidance is raised.

Earnings and rating updates shape intraday moves

As reported by CNBC, several of the session's biggest movers are reacting to fresh earnings reports and brokerage actions rather than a broad market catalyst.

Coinbase rallies 8% after falling 15% over the previous three trading days through Monday, even after the crypto exchange reports weaker third-quarter trading volumes last week and Morgan Stanley lowers its rating to underweight while cutting its price target by 53% on Monday. Shopify drops more than 5% after missing estimates on subscription gross profit and gross merchandise volume, with quarterly revenue of $3.74 billion coming in just below LSEG estimates of $3.75 billion.

Bloom Energy gains nearly 10% after Barclays upgrades the fuel-cell maker to overweight from equal weight, citing stronger-than-expected demand, although the bank trims its 12-month price target to $289 from $319. Thomson Reuters falls 7.5% after adjusted third-quarter earnings of 81 cents per share miss the 83 cents expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet, even as revenue matches estimates at $1.83 billion.

On Semiconductor rises 4% after third-quarter adjusted earnings of 90 cents per share on $1.72 billion in revenue top LSEG forecasts. DuPont de Nemours climbs about 9% after reporting adjusted earnings of $2.09 per share on $1.87 billion in revenue, ahead of FactSet consensus, while also raising its full-year outlook and forecasting organic growth of about 4.5%.

Fiserv advances 12% after third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.75 per share beat consensus estimates and the company authorizes a $500 million common stock repurchase for the fourth quarter. Revvity adds 11% after lifting its full-year pro forma adjusted earnings per share guidance to $5.40 to $5.45 from a prior range of $5.30 to $5.40.

Pfizer eases 1% despite posting quarterly results above LSEG expectations, reporting 87 cents per share, excluding one-time items, on revenue of $16.58 billion. Zebra Technologies loses 6% after third-quarter adjusted gross margin of 46% misses the 47.7% expected by FactSet, while Gartner slides 13% even though its third-quarter results and full-year guidance exceed expectations.

Tech and AI names show uneven momentum

Artificial intelligence-linked stocks recover after several sessions of heavy selling, suggesting risk appetite is returning selectively to growth shares. The iShares AI Innovation and Tech Active ETF rises 2%, while Nvidia gains 3%, Advanced Micro Devices adds 5%, Sandisk advances nearly 4%, and neocloud companies Nebius and Ire jump 7% and 9%, respectively.

Palantir Technologies slips 2% despite reporting adjusted third-quarter earnings above Wall Street estimates. The company says U.S. commercial revenue surges 148% to $984 million, above U.S. government revenue of $953 million, and projects about $2.65 billion in fourth-quarter revenue and $8.53 billion for all of 2026.

Apple declines 2% after the iPhone maker issues a weaker-than-expected margin forecast and reports fiscal fourth-quarter iPad sales below Street estimates. The mixed reaction across large-cap technology and AI-related stocks underscores how investors are rewarding stronger guidance and clearer margin trends while punishing even modest disappointments.

Our earlier analysis of the Nasdaq 100 rebound explained how traders were positioning ahead of major earnings releases and potential Federal Reserve signals, helping lift risk appetite in technology shares. We also highlighted mixed momentum readings and a likely consolidation zone, with the 28,991 support and 29,632 resistance levels seen as key markers for the index’s next move.
