IBM stock forecast: Can $242 support trigger a rebound toward $250?
IBM is holding up better than the broader market after the latest sell-off, but the break below its 200-day SMA keeps the recovery fragile. A defence of $242 could support a rebound toward $250, while a deeper breakdown would expose the 50-day SMA near $236.70.
U.S. stocks suffered a sharp selloff on November 5. Concerns over tighter regulation of AI infrastructure pushed the S&P 500 down 4.4%, while the Nasdaq fell 5.5%.
Investor attention now turns to the October U.S. jobs report, due on November 6. Economists expect payrolls to rise by 65,000 while the unemployment rate remains at 4.2%. A meaningful deviation from those forecasts could add another burst of volatility to U.S. equities.

Holding $242 support could trigger a rebound toward $250
The scenario outlined previously played out in full. IBM stock reached the $255.60–260 target zone before the broader market was hit by a wave of panic selling. The price broke below the 200-day SMA and ended the session at $247.11.
In premarket trading on November 6, the stock is testing the $244–242 support zone. IBM has shown notable relative strength compared with the broader market, so the base case remains a hold above $242 followed by a rebound toward $250.
A sustained move below $242 for at least one trading day would invalidate this scenario. In that case, the correction could extend toward the 50-day SMA near $236.70.
Relative strength offers no guarantee of a sustained rebound
IBM’s relatively limited losses during the broader selloff are a positive sign, but they do not yet confirm a durable recovery. The break below the 200-day SMA has weakened the short-term technical picture, while continued nervousness across the stock market could keep buyers cautious.
IBM’s relative resilience therefore remains constructive, but it does not rule out another round of selling.
