Emin Gün Sirer is a Turkish-American computer scientist and the co-founder and CEO of Ava Labs. He pioneered the Avalanche consensus protocol at Cornell University, where he also served as associate professor and co-directed the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts (IC3). His early work includes operating systems like SPIN, database systems such as HyperDex, and one of the first Bitcoin forks to address self-ish mining. He earned degrees at Princeton and the University of Washington.

Avalanche has grown into a blockchain supporting over 1,500 projects, from DeFi apps to enterprise tokenization pilots, with AVAX regularly ranked in the global Top 20 crypto assets by market capitalization. At the age of 53, his personal net worth is estimated between $500 million and $1 billion, largely tied to AVAX.

Sirer has raised over $350 million in venture funding for Ava Labs, secured partnerships with Deloitte and Mastercard, and expanded Avalanche’s validator network to over 1,300 nodes. He remains one of the few academics to convert distributed systems theory into billion-dollar industry infrastructure.
