Crypto, Web3, and Digital Assets by Mason Nystrom

Mason Nystrom is a core investor at Pantera Capital, where he focuses on early-stage blockchain infrastructure, AI-crypto convergence, and consumer-facing Web3 applications. Prior to joining Pantera in July 2024, Nystrom held senior research positions at Messari and Variant Fund, where he led coverage on DeFi, DAOs, and token utility frameworks. His research output helped define project evaluation standards now used across the industry, particularly in token velocity modeling and Layer 1 ecosystem analysis.

At Pantera, Nystrom is involved in sourcing, due diligence, and portfolio advisory for more than 30 startups, with average ticket sizes between USD 1 million and 3 million. Notable deals include rounds in EigenLayer, Backpack, and Espresso Systems, several of which are now among the top 20 protocols by total value secured. His Substack, “Unsyndicated by Mason Nystrom,” delivers independent research, deep protocol dives, and investor memos to over 14,000 subscribers. In Q2 2025, Pantera’s seed fund disclosed that over USD 150 million in aggregate capital had been deployed across Nystrom’s selected projects. Public speaking engagements include Token2049, EthCC, and Messari Mainnet, with sessions focused on cross-chain messaging, crypto-financial primitives, and decentralized AI architectures. With a unique blend of market intelligence and technical fluency, Nystrom plays a growing role in shaping Pantera’s long-term investment thesis.
