Concerns about voting rights protections for Black voters in Memphis have resurfaced ahead of the U.S. elections.
Steve Cohen commented via social media that recent moves by former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party could threaten the power of Black voters in the region. Cohen referenced prior Supreme Court decisions that weakened the Voting Rights Act, and suggested there may be additional efforts that could impact congressional majorities. Cohen noted that his team is working with experienced voting rights advocates to respond to these developments and emphasized the importance of safeguarding electoral access in key communities.
Cohen has previously raised concerns related to former President Trump’s policies. He commented on the stalled progress to move cannabis out of Schedule I under the Trump administration in one report. In another statement, he urged action on environmental policy to prevent further rollbacks under Trump, as noted here.
