XM gains Kenyan license as CMA grants regulatory clearance
Global brokerage XM has obtained official authorization from Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA), allowing the company to operate under the country’s national regulatory framework. The approval formalizes XM’s presence in Kenya and expands its regulated footprint across the African continent.
With the CMA license in place, XM is authorized to provide trading services to Kenyan residents in compliance with local financial regulations. The broker’s activities within the jurisdiction will now fall under direct oversight of the Authority, aligning its operations with domestic standards for transparency, reporting, and investor protection.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, XM’s co-CEO Menelaos Menelaou noted that Kenya is viewed internally as a strategically important and rapidly developing financial market. He indicated that the CMA authorization reflects the company’s broader focus on regulatory alignment and long-term market participation, while enabling Kenyan traders to access XM’s global trading infrastructure within a locally recognized supervisory framework.
Through the newly secured license, clients in Kenya will gain access to XM’s international product suite, which includes more than 1,400 instruments across Forex, equities, commodities, indices, and other asset classes. The company has also rolled out a dedicated local website to streamline onboarding and improve user accessibility.
For Kenyan traders, the development introduces an added layer of regulatory clarity, as services will now be delivered under CMA supervision. The move comes amid increasing competition among international brokers seeking licensed entry into high-growth African markets.
