Coinbase has announced the launch of its 'Coinbase Tokenize' platform, targeted at institutional clients and focused on bringing real-world assets such as equities and securities onto the blockchain. According to Coinbase, the platform provides issuance, regulated custody, lifecycle management, distribution, and trading of tokenized assets, with each token backed 1:1 by underlying securities held in regulated, bankruptcy-remote custody. The platform operates on the Base blockchain and supports both permissioned and permissionless functionality, offering onchain settlement and integration with DeFi protocols. Access to token minting and redemption is limited to KYC-onboarded institutional partners and Authorized Participants, and the offering is issued under Regulation S, placing jurisdictional limits on availability. Corporate actions like dividends and splits are processed using an onchain multiplier mechanism, according to Coinbase.
