Coinbase has launched a new service called 'Coinbase for Agents,' allowing users to connect AI agents to their accounts with customizable access controls, order previews, and the option to disconnect at any time.
Coinbase has introduced 'Coinbase for Agents,' a service enabling users to connect AI agents directly to their Coinbase accounts with controls over portfolio access, order approvals, and the ability to disconnect at any time. According to the company's official announcement, users can assign specific permissions such as isolating agent trading to a designated portfolio, setting trade size and spending limits (with some controls planned for future release), and previewing orders before execution. The service allows these agents to conduct trades, make payments through Coinbase's x402 protocol, and execute workflows within user-defined boundaries. Access is available through a Model Context Protocol (for integration with web-based AI platforms) and a command-line interface for developers. Coinbase states that standard compliance checks, such as Know Your Transaction monitoring, will apply to this activity.
