A distinguished career in macroeconomics
Professor Williams has an extensive background in banking and economic policy. He served for over a decade as Chief Economist at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking — one of the UK’s largest financial institutions. He is also the Rotating Chairman of the Institute of Economic Affairs Shadow Monetary Policy Committee (SMPC), a panel of independent economists offering alternative perspectives on the UK’s monetary policy.
