Questrade review: Broker unveils new platform and tools redefining investing in Canada
Questrade launches major upgrades

Questrade, one of Canada’s leading online brokerage firms, unveiled a wide range of new products and tools during a live-streamed investor event titled The Dawn of Investing, aiming to transform the way Canadians trade and invest. Among the headline announcements: a next-generation trading platform, expanded investment options and entry into private markets — marking what the firm described as a new era in its evolution.

A new trading platform and expanded investment tools

At the center of the rollout is the new platform Questrade Pro — a browser-based, high-performance trading interface that Questrade claims will make traders “10× more efficient.” It features modern charting with one-second candles, advanced visualizations, enhanced options tools, and AI-driven analytics. Beta access will begin within two weeks for registrants on the waiting list.

On the product front, Questrade is rolling out a number of innovations:

Cash-Secured Puts (CSPs): For the first time in Canada, CSPs are available not only in cash or margin accounts, but also in eligible registered accounts (excluding RESPs), enabling investors to generate income on stock positions intended for long-term holding.

Custom Indexing and Portfolio Rebalancing (coming 2026): These tools will allow investors to build personalized, ETF-like portfolios based on chosen indices or ETFs, then periodically rebalance them to target allocations — an appealing feature for those seeking greater control over their asset mix and lower fees than traditional ETFs.

Quest Metals: Launching in December, this new service will let Canadians buy physical gold with holdings stored in their name at the Royal Canadian Mint, starting with as little as $5 — offering an alternative to metal ETFs.

Private Markets Access (from 2026): Questrade plans to offer access to private equity, private credit and pre-IPO investments — asset classes historically reserved for institutional investors — directly through its platform.

What this means for Canadian investors

For Questrade — operating for 26 years and managing roughly CAD 85 billion in assets under administration — the unveil signals a shift from a traditional discount broker to a full-service investment platform seeking to meet the needs of both retail and sophisticated traders

The new tools and services promise greater flexibility, potentially lower costs, and broader access to asset classes previously difficult for retail investors to reach. For active traders, Questrade Pro and CSPs offer more powerful execution and options income strategies; for long-term investors, custom indexing, rebalancing and physical metals offer more control and diversification.
