Saskatchewan secures $10M agri-innovation

Federal funding and trade outreach in Saskatoon

As reported by Global Affairs Canada, Sidhu announces more than $10 million in funding at Ag in Motion to support agricultural innovation in Saskatchewan during a visit focused on trade, investment and export development.

At Western Canada's largest outdoor farm expo, he meets agricultural manufacturers and ag-tech companies to examine technologies that help Canadian firms compete globally. The minister also meets Saskatchewan's Minister of Trade and Export Development, Warren Kaeding, to discuss trade diversification, investment attraction and export opportunities, including in Indo-Pacific markets.

Saskatchewan's role in exports and industrial growth

Sidhu also visits the BHP Jansen mine construction site and Calian Advanced Technologies' manufacturing facility, where discussions center on export growth, international partnerships and opportunities in the aerospace, defence and technology sectors.

The Jansen project, described as the largest private investment in Saskatchewan's history, is expected to strengthen Canada's position as a leading global potash supplier while creating jobs and broader economic opportunities across the province. During the Saskatoon visit, Sidhu also meets Indigenous business leaders to discuss barriers and opportunities in international trade and ways to expand Indigenous participation in global markets.

In a statement, Sidhu says Saskatchewan exports 70% of what it produces and remains a global leader in agriculture, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing and innovation. He says the federal government is negotiating trade agreements faster than ever to diversify trade and help Canadian businesses compete internationally.

Federal funding for tourism and community development in Newfoundland and Labrador’s Gros Morne region was previously covered by our publication, detailing more than $3.7 million allocated to two local organizations. The package included support for a Culinary and Cultural Hub and the ACTivate community-driven tourism initiative, aimed at improving visitor experiences, extending the season, and creating longer-term local economic opportunities.
