Highlights

  • Cocoa shows short-term upside momentum but faces medium-term resistance and maintains a bullish long-term trend structure.
  • Momentum indicators are mixed, with some pointing to overbought conditions and others showing uncertainty in intraday direction.
  • Price is expected to trade sideways between $5,418 and $5,527, with an increased probability of a downward move in coming sessions.

Momentum divergence as technical signals split on direction

On the technical side, the price is above the MA-20 ($5,460) and the long-term MA-200 ($4,622), but sits just below the MA-50 ($5,482). The Ichimoku Kijun at $5,477 serves as an immediate resistance. The current session shows choppy conditions around the mid-range at $5,473, with momentum signals delivering a mixed picture: RSI at 53.23 and CCI indicate a buy, while Stochastic RSI and Awesome Oscillator remain neutral. Notably, MACD signals a strong sell and ADX is neutral, while Bull/Bear Power highlights overbought market conditions with buyers dominating the high-volatility environment. The divergence between a weak MACD and stronger RSI and CCI readings points to market uncertainty.

Sideways price outlook as breakout odds remain subdued

Short-term projections suggest that cocoa will likely trade within a range of $5,418 to $5,527 over the next two to three sessions. The probability of an upward breakout is limited at 26%, with a greater chance of a decline. The most probable scenario involves sideways movement within this corridor. A decisive break above the $5,477 resistance might initiate a bullish advance, while a drop below $5,418 would strengthen the case for a bearish reversal.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees cocoa trading in a directionless, high-volatility environment today. He notes that conflicting momentum signals and the lack of news create extra uncertainty. Short-term price action is likely to remain rangebound between $5,418 and $5,527, with upside potential limited by resistance at $5,477. Karapetjanc believes buyers still have an advantage, but a breakout requires further conviction. "If cocoa manages to clear $5,477 on strong volume, I would look for bullish momentum to return, but for now, sideways consolidation is the base case."

Earlier, analysts noted that elevated cocoa costs have been driving up chocolate prices and contributing to shifting trends in consumer demand and sales. Current technical signals suggest the market remains indecisive, making the $5,418–$5,527 range pivotal as traders watch for a breakout or reversal to signal the next significant direction for cocoa prices.
