Hardware wallets critical amid rising digital asset threats, Ledger warns
Ledger urges hardware protection

Ledger is urging crypto users to reconsider the risks of relying solely on software apps for transaction approvals, warning that any exploit targeting mobile phones or browsers can jeopardize digital funds.

The company asserts that while software is suitable for browsing and tracking crypto activity, critical decisions such as approving transactions should rely on dedicated hardware devices. Ledger is advocating for a multi-layered security approach in which a user's phone initiates transactions, but final authorization must come from a specialized hardware signer.

Ledger previously identified a browser vulnerability in Trust Wallet that exposed wallet keys due to poor entropy, resulting in a multi-million dollar crypto theft, according to a recent disclosure by Ledger. The company has also promoted device security through offers such as $20 in free Bitcoin with select hardware, including Flex and Nano models in a recent campaign. These incidents highlight the company’s ongoing focus on secure transaction authorization methods.
