Sunrun, Google launch energy program

Sunrun has joined forces with Google, PG&E, Renew Home, and Tesla to launch a new distributed power plant program in the San Jose area. The collaboration will see nearly 21,000 existing home energy systems enrolled in the initiative, accelerating the adoption of distributed energy resources and advancing Sunrun's speed-to-power strategy.

This program brings together leading energy and technology companies to leverage distributed solar and storage across thousands of households. By integrating these assets, the initiative aims to enhance local grid resilience and support broader decarbonization efforts in Northern California.

Sunrun recently reported its Q2 2026 financial results, noting that severe weather has increased demand for affordable backup energy across the U.S. The company’s earnings highlighted this surge in interest. Sunrun’s stock has also come under pressure, with shares sliding 4.9% and trading at $10.49 after the latest earnings release amid weak technical trends.
