NLEX C5 link nears finish

Road operator NLEX Corp. is moving closer to opening another link in its urban expressway network after bringing a key section of the NLEX-C5 Northlink project to 96% completion. The milestone covers the two-kilometer Segment 8.2 Section 1A, part of the broader 11.3-kilometer corridor designed to improve connections between Metro Manila and North Luzon.

Highlights

  • NLEX Corp.'s Segment 8.2 Section 1A of the NLEX-C5 Northlink project is 96% complete, focusing on concrete barriers and expansion joints installation.
  • The P2.2 billion, two-kilometer section links Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia and aims to benefit around 11,000 vehicles daily upon operations.
  • The elevated expressway is designed to relieve congestion on Quirino Highway and Mindanao Avenue and enhance NLEX network connectivity between Metro Manila, Central, and North Luzon.

Construction progress and project scope

As reported by BusinessWorld Online, NLEX Corp. says Segment 8.2 Section 1A has reached 96% completion as work advances on the NLEX-C5 Northlink project.

The two-kilometer section forms part of the 11.3-kilometer route linking Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue. In a statement on Thursday, NLEX President and General Manager Luis S. Reñon says the company aims to help motorists travel more efficiently by providing reliable road infrastructure, even as fuel prices and other travel costs remain outside its control.

Construction is now focused on installing concrete barriers and expansion joints along the main line, while remaining civil works are being carried out to prepare the segment for operations. Last year, NLEX partnered with China Road and Bridge Corp. for the construction of Section 1A, a project with a cost of P2.2 billion.

Traffic relief and network impact

The elevated expressway is set to operate 24/7 for all vehicle classes, with about 11,000 vehicles a day expected to benefit. NLEX says the new link is intended to ease congestion along Quirino Highway and Mindanao Avenue while strengthening connectivity between Metro Manila and Central and North Luzon through the broader NLEX network.

NLEX is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. The company also serves as builder-concessionaire and operator of the North Luzon Expressway, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and the NLEX Connector.

In our earlier coverage of the National Housing Expo, we reported that DHSUD and Pag-IBIG Fund would showcase around 50,000 housing units in Pasay City, alongside financing offers, discounts, and on-site loan assistance. The article highlighted Expanded 4PH benefits such as higher loan limits and subsidized or promotional interest rates, as well as participation from major developers offering deals to make homeownership more accessible.
