Anthropic launches Claude Duet for autonomous workplace tasks
Anthropic is expanding its push into AI productivity tools with a standalone agent app aimed at professionals and small-business owners. The launch comes as competition intensifies among AI developers to offer software that can act across connected apps with less direct user prompting.
Highlights
- Anthropic launched Claude Duet, an AI agent app for autonomous tasks like meeting scheduling and financial forecasts, available to U.S. Pro and Max subscribers via waitlisted preview.
- Claude Duet leverages the Opus 5.5 model, operates across iOS, Android, and claude.ai, and proactively flags items needing user attention from connected applications.
- Duet offers over 6,000 integrations through the Claude Marketplace—such as Gmail, Slack, Stripe's Link, and Shopify's Shop Pay—amid growing competition from OpenAI's always-on agents and Meta's Muse.
Claude Duet rollout and product scope
As reported by Reuters, Anthropic on Thursday introduced Claude Duet as a standalone AI agent app that delivers daily briefings and carries out tasks such as scheduling meetings, building financial forecasts and creating web apps. The app is available on iOS, Android and claude.ai through a waitlisted research preview. Anthropic said the product watches connected user apps and flags items needing attention instead of waiting for users to submit prompts.
Claude Duet runs on Anthropic's Opus 5.5 model and is initially offered to U.S. subscribers on the company's Pro and Max plans, using existing usage limits.
Competition and operating safeguards
Anthropic is entering a fast-moving AI agent market in which rivals are also trying to automate work across software platforms. OpenAI last month launched always-on "dots" agents that pursue user goals across apps including Slack and Microsoft Teams, while Meta's Muse AI agent drew millions of downloads and increased investor interest in autonomous AI services.Duet connects with more than 6,000 integrations in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail and Slack, and can make purchases through Stripe's Link digital wallet and Shopify's Shop Pay. Anthropic said the agent requires user approval for sensitive actions, while acknowledging that it can still misjudge urgency and is less effective on personal tasks such as booking tickets.
In our earlier article on AI agents’ impact in large U.S. companies, we reviewed survey findings showing many CEOs report efficiency or growth gains, while only a small share consider the technology truly transformational so far. The piece also highlighted that organizations are pairing AI-agent adoption with continued investment in infrastructure, retraining, and hiring to redesign processes and support human-AI collaboration.
