Solar plan tied to housing expansion

As reported by BusinessWorld, citing Italpinas Development Corp., the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with SunShare Philippines, Inc. to explore rooftop solar photovoltaic installations and electricity management measures across its property developments.

The proposed collaboration covers possible solar PV panel installations on the rooftops of IDC projects, alongside steps to optimize the company’s electricity portfolio. IDC says the scope, implementation and specific expected benefits of any project remain subject to further technical and commercial assessments, and could change as the collaboration progresses.

The initiative comes as the developer expands into the affordable and economic housing segment through its wholly owned subsidiary, IDC Homes, Inc.

Renewable energy push and market response

IDC has three wholly owned subsidiaries, including IDC Homes, which focuses on affordable and economic housing. The company also holds a 25% stake in renewable energy developer Constellation Energy Corp., linking the latest plan to its broader exposure to the energy sector.

For the property sector, rooftop solar could help developers improve energy efficiency and offer lower power costs to occupants if projects proceed beyond the assessment stage. Shares in Italpinas Development Corp. rise 3.33%, or P0.02, to close at P0.62 each on Tuesday.

In our earlier report on the Philippine stock market rebound despite a record-weak peso, we noted that the PSEi recovered on bargain hunting after recent losses, even as the currency slid to new lows near P63 per dollar. We also highlighted improving investor flows, with net foreign buying turning positive and the property sector among the day’s stronger gainers.
