Shifting capital flows and more complex risk-transfer structures are drawing fresh attention to the U.S. life and annuity insurance market ahead of a Washington industry event on Nov. 12, 2026. AM Best is set to take part in a Capitol Forum panel examining how private capital, investment strategies and reinsurance ties are reshaping the segment.

Highlights

  • AM Best's Sridhar Manyem will speak at The Capitol Forum's life and annuity industry panel in Washington, D.C. on November 12, 2026.
  • The panel will analyze the impact of private capital, complex investment strategies, and reinsurance arrangements on the U.S. life and annuity market.
  • The event gathers regulators, executives, investors, and policymakers, signaling increased scrutiny and broader regulatory focus on the insurance market structure.

Panel focus and event agenda

As reported by AM Best, Sridhar Manyem, senior director of industry research and analytics, is scheduled to speak at The Capitol Forum's "Life & Annuity Industry at a Crossroads" event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The panel is titled, "The New Life Insurance Business Model: From Conservatism to Complexity, How Life and Annuity Became a Private-Capital Business," and is set for 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026.

The discussion is set to examine how private capital, increasingly complex investment strategies and reinsurance arrangements are altering the U.S. life and annuity segment. It is also expected to address the growing interconnectedness among insurers, reinsurers and asset managers.

Manyem has led AM Best's industry research team since joining the company in 2017, overseeing publication of the firm's views on topical issues affecting the sector.

Broader industry and policy relevance

The Capitol Forum focuses on public policy-related topics, placing the insurance discussion in a broader regulatory and market context. The one-day complimentary event is set to bring together regulators, insurance executives, investors, academics, consumer advocates and policymakers.

That mix of participants underscores how developments in life and annuity insurance are being viewed not only as a business-model issue for carriers, but also as a matter of oversight, capital allocation and market structure across the U.S. insurance sector.

Our earlier coverage of EQT’s acquisition of U.S. real estate firm Stockbridge examined how private capital managers are pursuing larger, multi-strategy platforms as fundraising stays difficult and exits remain slower. We highlighted how consolidation is accelerating across the sector, with big firms using acquisitions and listings to broaden capabilities and grow assets under management in a tougher market backdrop.
