DoorDash builds its own AI tools
According to TechCrunch, while third-party agent volumes remain modest, DoorDash is expanding its own agent-based ordering products. The company launched a text-to-order agent in September, introduced a CLI agent in July, and rolled out Ask DoorDash in June, a chatbot that lets users place orders using prompts and photos. It also released an MCP designed to enable ordering from other chatbots for corporate use, indicating that the company is preparing for wider AI-driven commerce workflows.
Competition shapes the next phase
DoorDash says it wants to learn more about agentic use cases and build a healthy relationship with third-party agent makers. Xu also says advertising inside such agents could become an opportunity in the future. The wider market remains unsettled as retailers and platforms decide whether AI agents should be allowed to access their content. Amazon has been blocking personal agents, while Walmart is taking a more open approach as it looks to capture business from rivals.

The article also highlighted that firms are pairing agent adoption with continued investment in AI infrastructure, along with hiring and retraining plans, as they work through the harder task of redesigning processes around more autonomous systems.
