Fox secures Roku deal

Fox Corp has completed its acquisition of Roku as it pushes to broaden its digital distribution and advertising capabilities. The deal, announced in June, gives the broadcaster access to more than 100 million households using Roku's platform and deepens its reach beyond traditional cable television.

Highlights

  • Fox closed its $22 billion cash-and-stock acquisition of Roku on Friday, aiming to strengthen its streaming and digital advertising capabilities.
  • The deal gives Fox access to over 100 million Roku households, expanding potential digital audience reach for its sports and news content.
  • Acquisition equips Fox with enhanced ad targeting tools and aligns with broader industry moves as marketers shift budgets toward digital and streaming platforms.

Deal expands Fox's streaming distribution base

As reported by Reuters, Fox on Friday closed its $22 billion cash-and-stock acquisition of Roku, completing a transaction aimed at strengthening the company's position in streaming and digital advertising. The purchase marks a significant strategic move for a media group that has remained heavily tied to cable television through its sports and news programming.

With Roku now part of Fox, the broadcaster gains direct access to a large connected-TV audience and a platform that can support broader online distribution. The transaction also gives Fox additional tools to improve ad targeting as marketers continue shifting spending toward digital and streaming environments.

Advertising and audience growth in focus

Access to more than 100 million households on Roku's platform could help Fox build a larger digital audience for its core content portfolio. That includes sports and news offerings, two areas where the company has continued to rely on live viewing and advertiser demand.

The acquisition reflects a wider industry push by traditional media companies to secure stronger positions in streaming as viewing habits move online. For Fox, the deal is a bet that greater platform scale can support both audience growth and a more competitive advertising business.

Our earlier article on Cohere’s planned acquisition of AI cybersecurity startup AISLE explained how the deal would add vulnerability detection to Cohere’s broader AI consolidation effort alongside its merger with Germany’s Aleph Alpha. We noted that the move would also deepen Cohere’s European footprint through AISLE’s Prague engineering hub, positioning the combined group to offer stronger security and threat-detection tools for enterprise and public-sector clients.
