Rex Shares launches first-ever Bitcoin convertible bond ETF

In a move highlighting growing institutional adoption of Bitcoin, investment manager Rex Shares has introduced the Bitcoin Corporate Treasury Convertible Bond ETF (BMAX). The fund provides investors exposure to convertible bonds issued by companies strategically holding Bitcoin in their treasuries.

Innovative access for retail investors

This ETF, the first of its kind, is designed to grant retail investors easier access to a niche financial product previously accessible mostly to institutional investors. Convertible bonds have emerged as a popular financing mechanism for corporations investing heavily in Bitcoin. These bonds offer debt stability with an equity-like upside linked to Bitcoin's performance, attracting investors looking for diversified exposure to the cryptocurrency market.

BMAX's primary exposure comes from convertible bonds issued by Strategy, a corporation known for its substantial Bitcoin treasury holdings and led by cryptocurrency advocate Michael Saylor. Strategy’s bonds constitute approximately 81.21% of the ETF's portfolio. Additionally, the fund includes bonds from notable Bitcoin miners such as Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA), representing 14.6%, and Riot Platforms, making up 4.02%.

Growing institutional confidence in Bitcoin

The launch of BMAX underscores increasing mainstream financial interest in Bitcoin. Strategy recently concluded a major $2 billion zero-coupon convertible note issuance, subsequently acquiring over 20,356 additional Bitcoins. With this purchase, the company’s Bitcoin holdings reached nearly 500,000 BTC, valued at over $41 billion.

The ETF follows other recent launches in the crypto-linked ETF space, such as Bitwise's Bitcoin Standard Corporations ETF, indicating robust investor interest in funds tied to corporate Bitcoin treasuries. These new financial products aim to bridge traditional finance and cryptocurrency markets, signaling a potentially transformative trend for the broader investment landscape.

As investor demand for crypto-related products continues to rise, ETFs like BMAX could pave the way for further financial innovation and broader acceptance of cryptocurrencies within traditional financial portfolios.
