Binance app disappears from Google Play in some EU countries
The Binance app has become unavailable on Google Play in several European Union countries. The move comes amid questions over the exchange’s compliance with the bloc’s crypto regulations.
Where the issue has been reported
A user in Spain told Cointelegraph that the Binance app no longer appears in Google Play search results. However, it can still be downloaded through App Market, the app store used on Oppo devices.
The situation is different in Poland, where the Binance app remains available on Google Play. This suggests that the restrictions have not affected all EU countries.
The first reports of Binance’s Android app disappearing from Google Play in Europe emerged last week. At the time, OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos said on X that the removal may have been linked to the requirements of the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA.
The reports came several weeks after Binance withdrew its MiCA license application in Greece shortly before the transition period ended on July 1. The company later notified some EU users that access to certain services would be restricted, while withdrawals would remain available.
Why MiCA is creating problems for Binance
Binance’s main challenge is that it does not have a MiCA license, which became mandatory for providing regulated crypto services in the EU after the transition period ended on July 1, 2026. Without such authorization, the exchange cannot fully serve European clients, even if an application is still under review. As a result, the company has had to restrict certain services, stop onboarding new users in some countries, and prepare to move clients to licensed entities.
Obtaining a license requires Binance to bring its European operations in line with MiCA’s common standards, including rules on safeguarding client assets, disclosure, corporate governance, and operational risk controls. For a global exchange with a complex structure, this means additional costs and the need to overhaul some of its internal processes.
As a reminder, hackers are actively using fake Google Play apps to mine cryptocurrency and steal funds.
