Durov declared internationally wanted

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been charged with facilitating terrorist activities and placed on an international wanted list. The announcement comes as a separate criminal investigation against Durov in France remains ongoing.

According to Interfax, Russian security services claim Telegram failed to remove channels, chats, and bots allegedly used by Ukrainian intelligence agencies. The FSB also alleged that extremist groups used the messaging platform to recruit members and coordinate attacks and cyber fraud.

However, Durov's name was not listed in Interpol's public wanted persons database at the time of publication. The FSB did not specify which international mechanism it was referring to.

Shortly afterward, Telegram's official X account posted an archival photo of Durov showing his middle finger. The company did not provide any additional comment.

Case against Durov has been unfolding since February

The criminal case against the Telegram founder first became public in February. At the time, Durov confirmed the investigation in a post on X, arguing that Russian authorities were using it as a tool to pressure the platform.

He said the government was finding new reasons every day to restrict Russians' access to Telegram in an effort to undermine citizens' rights to privacy and freedom of speech.

French investigation remains open

In addition to the Russian case, Durov remains under criminal investigation in France, where authorities are examining Telegram's alleged use for unlawful activities.

Although a French court allowed the entrepreneur to leave the country, the investigation has not been closed and remains ongoing.

Following reports of the latest criminal action against Durov, the Gram token (formerly Toncoin) came under pressure.

According to CoinMarketCap, the token fell about 2.9% over the past 24 hours to $1.40, while its market capitalization declined to $3.83 billion. At the same time, trading volume jumped more than 48% to exceed $73 million.

Earlier, Durov announced that Telegram would launch its native non-custodial Gram crypto wallet this summer. According to him, the product could eventually become available to more than 1 billion active Telegram users.
