Mastercard has completed its acquisition of BVNK, a company that develops infrastructure for stablecoin payments. The deal is expected to help the payments giant connect digital assets more closely with the traditional financial system.
According to Mastercard’s post on X, BVNK’s technology will be used to expand solutions involving stablecoins and tokenized assets. The company plans to offer them to banks, fintech platforms and large enterprises.

The use cases include business-to-business payments, payouts, settlement and corporate treasury management.
Mastercard did not disclose the final value of the acquisition. However, in March the company said it had agreed to buy BVNK for up to $1.8 billion.
Mastercard Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert said fiat currencies, stablecoins, tokenized deposits and other forms of value will coexist in the future. According to him, the key factor will be how effectively different payment systems and forms of money can work together.
BVNK was founded in 2021. The company provides infrastructure that allows businesses to send and receive payments across major blockchain networks.
BVNK said the acquisition by Mastercard will not affect its current operations or customer service.
At the same time, Mastercard plans to give BVNK customers access to a broader payments network, card products and new ways to transfer funds internationally.
Traditional cross-border payments often pass through several banks and intermediaries, which means settlement can take several days and involve additional fees. Stablecoins make it possible to transfer funds almost around the clock, speed up business-to-business settlement and simplify liquidity management. For Mastercard, integrating such assets is a way to preserve its central role in the payments industry by connecting bank accounts, cards and blockchain networks within a single infrastructure.
Interest in stablecoins has grown significantly in recent years. Major financial and technology companies are either launching their own digital currencies or adding support for existing assets. Mastercard has already expanded settlement using USDC, PYUSD, RLUSD and other regulated stablecoins, while Visa is developing similar infrastructure and Stripe allows businesses to accept such payments. The BVNK acquisition gives Mastercard ready-made technology to scale this business and work with banks, fintech companies and corporate clients.
Earlier this year, Visa selected BVNK to help integrate stablecoins into Visa Direct.
