K Wave Media aims to become the Korean Metaplanet
Korean entertainment company K Wave Media, listed on NASDAQ, is raising $500 million to create a Bitcoin-led digital treasury and to pursue acquisitions in the entertainment industry.
K Wave Media signed an agreement with Bitcoin Strategic Reserve KWM to sell up to $500 million worth of common shares. The funds will primarily be used to purchase Bitcoin. However, the company’s leadership stated they are also considering acquiring other cryptocurrencies to a lesser extent.
According to Ted Kim, interim co-CEO of K Wave Media, the decision to create a digital treasury represents a bold move toward a more agile and decentralized future:
“By integrating BTC into our core strategy, we are reinforcing our commitment to decentralization, agility, and forward-looking value creation,” said Ted Kim.
Following the announcement of its digital treasury initiative, the company's stock surged 160% to over $6 before stabilizing around $4.4.

The funds will also be used to operate Lightning Network nodes and support mergers and acquisitions within the K-POP industry.
