Nexo launches Aussie crypto loans

Australia’s crypto lending market is adding another regulated offering as Nexo Australia introduces credit lines backed by digital assets. The product lets eligible clients borrow Australian dollars or stablecoins without selling their cryptocurrency, with rates tied to the loan type and customer loyalty tier.

Highlights

  • Nexo Australia launched crypto-backed credit lines as a regulated credit representative under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, offering AUD or stablecoin loans.
  • Clients can borrow with interest rates from 0.9% to 21.9%, no fixed term, no origination fees, and generally receive funds within 24 hours.
  • Nexo joins a limited group of regulated crypto lenders in Australia, with registration from AUSTRAC and membership in the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.

Credit product rollout under consumer credit rules

Nexo Australia said in a Tuesday announcement shared with Cointelegraph that it has launched crypto-backed credit lines after becoming a credit representative under Australia’s National Consumer Credit Protection Act.

Eligible clients can use cryptocurrencies as collateral to borrow Australian dollars or stablecoins, with funds generally available within 24 hours. The company said the loans come with flexible repayments, no fixed term and no origination fees, while interest rates range from 0.9% to 21.9% depending on the credit line and the client’s loyalty tier.

Clients can choose between Smart and Standard credit lines. Peter Stanhope, general manager at Nexo Australia, said the main differences involve pricing, the range of assets accepted and how collateral is handled if the loan-to-value ratio rises.

Regulatory position and market impact in Australia

Nexo said the borrowing model carries margin-call and liquidation risk, meaning clients may lose part or all of their collateral if the value of the pledged assets declines.

The launch places Nexo among a limited number of crypto platforms offering regulated crypto-backed credit to users in Australia. In May 2026, Block Earner became the first crypto company in Australia to secure its own Australian Credit License from ASIC, while Nexo Australia is also registered with AUSTRAC as a virtual asset service provider and is a member of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.
