What's behind Polygon's latest 10.1% price pullback?
Polygon slides 10.05% today on fixes

Polygon (POL, formerly MATIC) fell 10.05% after critical security vulnerabilities were addressed through two hard forks on its proof-of-stake network, prompting a drop amid elevated trading activity and validator updates. The down move is partially supported by the pair remaining above major moving averages, with underlying momentum displaying mixed signals that limit clear downside conviction.

  • Nodes running outdated software were excluded from the main chain and had to upgrade to rejoin during a spike in trading activity.

Security vulnerabilities fixed after upgrades trigger node removals and activity spike

Polygon Labs fixed critical security vulnerabilities on its proof-of-stake network through the Austin and Kyoto hard forks, impacting both the Bor and Heimdall clients. These upgrades addressed denial-of-service risks and validator software bugs before any exploitation occurred. Nodes running outdated versions were removed from the canonical chain and were required to update to rejoin, with increased trading activity observed during the process.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views Polygon’s recent 10.05% decline as a sign of ongoing instability, despite technicals showing resilience above key moving averages. He notes that the quick response to critical vulnerabilities demonstrates some diligence but undermines trust in the network’s robustness. Technical indicators are mixed, with oscillators conflicting and only soft buyer momentum present. Kharitonov stresses that structural risks remain, given the need for emergency hard forks and the still-bearish medium- to long-term trend. "The recent patching of core vulnerabilities is a temporary fix, not a confidence builder for sustained upside," he warns.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees the platform’s rapid resolution of security flaws as a testament to resilient project fundamentals. He emphasizes post-upgrade validator engagement and heightened trading as indicators of strong community commitment. Karapetjanc believes the technical outlook favors buyers, supported by bullish signals from the MACD and RSI. He expects consolidation to lay groundwork for upward momentum within the published forecast range. "With critical risks swiftly contained and market structure holding, further growth is likely as Polygon’s bullish narrative remains intact," the expert asserts.
Sholanke Dele, market strategist, remains unconvinced by the post-fork recovery in POL. He highlights that mixed momentum and lingering vulnerability concerns are weighing on sentiment. Global market uncertainty adds to downside risks, making the environment defensive. "Despite patching, I see more caution than conviction among market participants right now," Dele concludes.

Medium-term strength persists as bullish signals outweigh conflicting oscillators

POL/USD is trading above the MA-20 ($0.0929), MA-50 ($0.0835), and MA-200 ($0.089), which points to some strength across short, medium, and long-term horizons even though the MA-50 versus MA-200 alignment remains bearish. Immediate support is situated at the MA-20 ($0.0929), and near-term resistance is established at $0.094, with the Ichimoku Kijun ($0.1004) also acting as resistance within a generally buyer-favored trend. Momentum indicators show both the MACD and ADX signaling 'Buy,' indicating underlying bullish bias. The RSI reads 56.56 ('Buy'), but Stochastic RSI displays 'Oversold' at 0, CCI is neutral, and Bull/Bear Power is slightly positive at 0.0056, confirming buyer activity on an intraday basis. Oscillator signals are somewhat mixed, but the broader momentum environment leans positive.

Earlier, analysts noted that Polygon was under sustained selling pressure, with technical and structural challenges prompting a cautious outlook. The current analysis adds a contrary perspective as continued consolidation and improving momentum indicators shift the focus to potential upside, making any move above near-term resistance at $0.094 a key development to monitor.
