Hunter Biden-backed LAPTOP token sets airdrop, burn and charity terms before Base launch
Ahead of its planned Wednesday debut on Base, the LAPTOP memecoin is being positioned by Hunter Biden as a politically charged crypto project tied to public events and community distribution. The token’s structure links 30% of supply to outcomes ranging from Donald Trump’s impeachment prospects to the 2026 congressional balance, with tokens either burned or donated to charity depending on the results.
Highlights
- Hunter Biden's LAPTOP token launches Wednesday on Base with 1 billion total supply, allocating 20% to airdrops and 30% to real-world event-linked burn or charity.
- 30% of LAPTOP's supply goes to founders, including Hunter Biden, subject to a six-month lock-up and 24-month vesting, with additional allocations for liquidity and treasury.
- Biden positions LAPTOP as a response to political controversy, criticizing Trump's TRUMP token over $3.8 billion in losses across nearly 1 million wallets.
Token structure and launch plan
The Block reports that Hunter Biden sets out the purpose and tokenomics of LAPTOP in a post on X, describing the memecoin as a symbol of “resilience, redemption, and recovery” after years of political and media controversy surrounding his laptop. The token is set to launch Wednesday on Base Layer 2 with a total supply of 1 billion. Of that amount, 20% is reserved for community airdrops, including 10% unlocked at the token generation event through a Phoenix Veritas Foundation claim portal and another 10% to be distributed later at the foundation’s discretion.
Eligible claimants are split into two groups. People who suffered losses on Donald Trump’s TRUMP memecoin are assigned 2% of supply, while subscribers to Hunter Biden’s “Where’s Hunter?” Substack are assigned 8%.
Biden also says 30% of total supply is tied to 30 public real-world predictions. If a listed event happens, the related token tranche is burned, and if it does not, the same amount goes to charity instead; a separate 50 million tokens is committed to charity regardless of outcomes.
While Biden does not explain the full allocation in his X post, the project’s disclosure shows 30% is earmarked for founders including Hunter Biden, with a six-month lock-up followed by a 24-month vesting period. Another 10% is assigned to liquidity and 5% to the foundation treasury for operations.
Political backdrop and crypto market implications
LAPTOP draws directly on a controversy that became a major issue in the 2020 presidential campaign after Hunter Biden left a laptop at a Delaware repair shop in 2019. Files from the device later fueled Republican investigations into Joe Biden’s business links, while prosecutors also used material from the drive in Hunter Biden’s 2024 federal firearm case, which ended in conviction. In his X post, Biden frames the token as a response to that history, writing that opponents “turned laptop into a weapon” and that he “turned it into a token.” He also tells potential buyers they should not expect him or anyone else to increase the token’s value, signaling that the project is being presented more as a statement-driven memecoin than a conventional investment product.
The launch also arrives amid continued scrutiny of politically themed tokens. Biden uses the post to criticize Trump’s memecoin, which he says damaged trust after nearly 1 million wallets were left with $3.8 billion in collective losses.
