Blockchain.com, NYSE plan tokenized U.S. stocks access through digital platform
Blockchain.com and the New York Stock Exchange have agreed to link crypto users with tokenized U.S. exchange-listed stocks and ETFs through a planned digital trading venue. The service is not yet live and still depends on the launch of NYSE's digital alternative trading system and any required regulatory approvals.
Highlights
- Blockchain.com and NYSE agreed to link Blockchain.com's global user base to NYSE's planned digital ATS, enabling 24/7 trading of tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs with onchain settlement.
- ICE Data Services will distribute Blockchain.com's crypto market data to clients, while Blockchain.com will integrate ICE and NYSE data feeds into its app for over 44 million accounts.
- The SEC's recent innovation exemption and Citi Institute's $5.5 trillion tokenized asset forecast by 2030 underscore rising institutional interest in onchain securities trading.
Planned linkup for tokenized trading
As reported by The Block, the agreement is designed to connect Blockchain.com's users to NYSE's planned digital ATS, which would let global users trade tokenized versions of U.S. stocks and ETFs outside regular market hours. The arrangement gives NYSE another distribution channel for its tokenized securities platform, while helping Blockchain.com broaden its equities offering beyond the tokenized products it already provides with Ondo Finance outside the U.S.
NYSE announced the ATS in January and says it plans to offer 24/7 trading, fractional shares, stablecoin funding and immediate onchain settlement. The platform is intended to support both tokenized versions of traditional shares and shares issued directly as digital tokens, while preserving rights such as dividends and voting.
Peter Smith, executive chairman, CEO and co-founder of Blockchain.com, says in a statement that connecting to the NYSE digital ATS would expand access to these digital assets for tens of millions of users worldwide.
Market data ties and sector implications
The agreement also covers the exchange of market data between the companies. ICE Data Services, part of NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange, plans to distribute Blockchain.com's crypto market data and analytics to its clients, while Blockchain.com plans to add certain ICE and NYSE exchange data feeds to its app for its more than 44 million confirmed accounts. The companies do not say when the service could launch, which stocks and ETFs would be included, or what the financial terms are. The announcement follows the Securities and Exchange Commission's innovation exemption introduced last week to support onchain trading of some tokenized U.S. stocks, with a five-year relief framework for eligible platforms and liquidity providers.
Interest in tokenized securities is rising as crypto and traditional finance groups build products around onchain settlement and round-the-clock trading. Citi Institute estimates tokenized assets could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030 in its base-case forecast.
Blockchain.com already offers tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs outside the U.S. through Ondo Finance, and expanded that service to eligible users across 30 European Economic Area countries in February after earlier launches in Africa and South America in 2025. NYSE also signed an agreement with Securitize in March, with Securitize expected to act as a digital transfer agent and broker-dealer participant on the planned platform.
In our earlier article on NYSE and Blockchain.com’s strategic partnership, we explained that the firms planned to explore blockchain-based tokens linked to NYSE-listed U.S. stocks and ETFs, alongside a reciprocal market-data arrangement. We also noted that the SEC’s new exemption could accelerate onchain stock-token offerings, even as questions remain around investor protections and whether tokenized products fully preserve shareholder rights.
