DogeOS is opening a public testnet that adds an EVM-compatible application layer to Dogecoin without changing the network's base chain. The rollout gives developers a live environment to build trading, lending, stablecoin and gaming applications as the project works toward a future mainnet launch.
Highlights
- DogeOS launched an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup testnet settling on Dogecoin, enabling smart-contracts without altering the Dogecoin base layer.
- DogeOS raised $6.9 million from investors led by Polychain Capital in May 2025 and proposed a Dogecoin Core upgrade to allow miners to verify execution proofs.
- Dogecoin trades at $0.094, down 60% in a year, as DogeOS aims to expand ecosystem utility and attract developers through its new application layer.
Testnet rollout and network design
The Block reports that DogeOS has launched an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup that settles to Dogecoin, aiming to give DOGE a smart-contract layer while leaving the underlying Dogecoin base layer unchanged. The network is built to support applications such as trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets and games, with state settling to the Dogecoin network. DogeOS currently relies on a trusted execution environment, validators and a permissioned sequencer for security.
DogeOS CEO Jordan Jefferson says Dogecoin does not currently verify zero-knowledge proofs itself. Instead, bridge state transitions require valid proofs together with signatures from a majority of validators and a TEE signer.
Jefferson says the team is focused on the public testnet so developers can build and test applications while DogeOS validates the network. He adds that the company will share a mainnet timeline after reaching the next development milestones.
Funding, upgrade plans and ecosystem impact
DogeOS comes from the team behind the MyDoge wallet and announced a $6.9 million funding round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Two months later, the team submitted a proposed Dogecoin Core upgrade that would let Dogecoin miners verify execution proofs directly, but that change has not yet been implemented.Jefferson previously says DogeOS is building an application layer intended to broaden the Dogecoin ecosystem beyond its historical reliance on Elon Musk. The new testnet gives developers direct access to that infrastructure as the project tries to expand utility around the token.
Timothy Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation, says in a Wednesday statement that he hopes DogeOS becomes a springboard for new utility-focused engineering and helps attract startups to build on Dogecoin. Dogecoin trades around $0.094 at publication time, down 60% over the past year.
In our earlier coverage of ESMA’s proposed MiCA enforcement upgrades, we explained that EU regulators are seeking faster intervention tools such as freezing crypto assets tied to suspected financial crime and taking down scam or unauthorized websites. We also noted proposals to curb misleading crypto marketing and to strengthen powers against non-EU firms that solicit EU investors without authorization—steps that could raise compliance expectations as crypto adoption broadens.
