Bitcoin whale transfers $377.6 million in BTC after six years of inactivity
Dormant bitcoin whale awakens

Large dormant bitcoin holdings are re-entering the market as another early wallet moves thousands of tokens after years without activity. The latest transfer involves 4,582 BTC, a stash that was worth about $40.8 million when the wallet received it in March 2020 and now remains spread across five recipient addresses.

Highlights

  • A dormant Bitcoin whale wallet '18Vm…VpQ9x' transferred 4,582 BTC, worth $377.6 million, to five addresses on Monday after six years of inactivity.
  • The recipient wallets from this transfer still retain the BTC, with no onchain evidence of sales or exchange deposits as of the report.
  • Bitcoin dropped 0.4% to $83,245 in the past 24 hours, with QCP Capital forecasting a $80,000–$90,000 trading range for Q4.

Onchain transfer details and timing

As reported by The Block, citing Lookonchain, the wallet identified as "18Vm…VpQ9x" transfers roughly 4,582 BTC to five addresses on Monday after more than six years of dormancy.

The recipient wallets still hold the funds, based on the onchain data cited in the report. The movement adds to a recent pattern of long-inactive large holders shifting bitcoin without an immediate indication that the assets have been sent to exchanges or sold.

Last week, another whale wallet, "bc1q…nhj0," also transferred 4,500 BTC, valued at about $375.7 million, to a separate address after more than four years of inactivity.

Market reaction and crypto outlook

Bitcoin falls 0.4% over the past 24 hours to $83,245 as of 11:50 p.m. ET Monday, after briefly touching a local low of around $81,220 earlier in the evening, according to The Block's BTC price page.

Justin d'Anethan, head of research at Arctic Digital, says the recent decline does not necessarily undermine the case for a market bottom or a broader bull run, but instead points to recalibration and the possible formation of a new support zone. Separately, QCP Capital says last week that its base-case scenario for the fourth quarter sees bitcoin trading between $80,000 and $90,000.

Governance turmoil at Africa Bitcoin Corporation has intensified after the JSE-listed bitcoin treasury company was left with only two remaining directors following a wave of resignations. Our earlier coverage noted that interim CEO Stafford Masie and three independent directors stepped down amid shareholder pressure, against a backdrop of heightened regulatory scrutiny and an upcoming shareholder meeting seen as key to stabilising oversight.
