Kazakhstan bans Coinbase, BingX and four crypto platforms

The Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Court has prohibited operators of six cryptocurrency platforms from providing and advertising services without the required licenses. The ruling affects Coinbase, BingX, HTX, BitMart, Bitcoin.com and WEEX, and also calls for restrictions on access to their apps through Google Play and the App Store.

The Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) announced the decision in a press release. The court granted the regulator's request on September 15, 2026, and subsequently revised the list of companies subject to the injunction.

LBank was initially included in the list. However, the platform voluntarily restricted access to its services in Kazakhstan, prompting the court to remove its operator from the ruling on September 18.

Google and Apple ordered to restrict access to crypto apps

The court prohibited the operators of the listed platforms from providing, offering or advertising digital asset services within the AIFC without the necessary authorization. The restrictions also cover the distribution of mobile applications used to provide these services.

The ruling affects Google and Apple as operators of app stores. Court documents will be sent to the companies to implement geographic restrictions on access to the relevant services.

AFSA emphasized that operating without a license creates unfair competition for regulated market participants. Licensed companies must comply with anti-money laundering requirements, customer verification procedures and rules protecting users' assets.

AFSA CEO Evgeniya Bogdanova said the regulator began taking action against unlicensed platforms in 2025. At that time, it issued written warnings to more than 20 cryptocurrency companies.

Following regulatory reviews, nine platforms voluntarily restricted access to their applications in Kazakhstan, while another seven expressed their intention to obtain licenses. The remaining six companies face enforcement of the court injunctions.

Kazakhstan tightens oversight of cryptocurrency market

Since May 2026, AFSA has been cooperating with the National Bank of Kazakhstan on oversight of digital asset transactions. The regulator warns that customers using unlicensed platforms do not receive the protections provided under local regulations.

At the same time, Kazakhstan continues to develop regulated infrastructure for cryptocurrency transactions. The country is also expanding cooperation with international market participants.

In September, Kazakhstan and Binance agreed to collaborate on issuing a stablecoin, developing cryptocurrency payments and launching new financial services.

The partnership aims to expand the use of digital assets in payments. However, new products must be developed in compliance with existing national regulatory requirements.

Earlier, we reported that Kazakhstan approved new cryptocurrency mining rules requiring contributions to the country's strategic cryptocurrency reserve. The changes form part of the government's broader policy to regulate digital asset mining and circulation.
