Blockchain.com launches crypto options as it seeks U.S. derivatives licenses
Blockchain.com unveils crypto options

Blockchain.com is expanding its retail trading lineup with short-dated crypto options for eligible users in supported jurisdictions. The rollout adds a capped-risk product to the company’s existing prediction markets and perpetual futures offering as it pursues broader U.S. regulatory approvals.

Highlights

  • Blockchain.com has launched crypto options trading on seven assets including bitcoin and ether, with expiries up to one week and a minimum $5 premium.
  • Users must fund options trades upfront in USDC, cannot close positions early, and access is limited to eligible users in supported jurisdictions.
  • The launch follows Blockchain.com's application for U.S. regulatory licenses for prediction markets and crypto derivatives, signaling a broader push into regulated U.S. derivatives.

Product structure and trading limits

As reported by The Block, citing Blockchain.com support documentation, the new service lets users buy call and put options on seven assets, including bitcoin and ether, with expiries of up to one week and a minimum premium of $5, excluding applicable fees.

Trades are funded upfront in USDC through the company’s Trading Account, and the amount paid for the option represents the maximum potential loss. Users choose an expiry date and target price, enter a trade amount and then confirm the position, after which Blockchain.com converts that market view into the corresponding call or put contract.

The company says the contracts must be held until expiry and cannot be sold or closed early. Access is limited to eligible users in supported jurisdictions, narrowing availability as the platform builds out its derivatives menu.

Regulatory push and market positioning

Options trading arrives after Blockchain.com applied earlier this month for U.S. regulatory licenses to offer prediction markets and crypto derivatives. The launch signals an effort to deepen product coverage while the company works toward a more formal foothold in the U.S. regulated derivatives market.

Blockchain.com already offers prediction markets through Polymarket and perpetual futures through Hyperliquid to some international users. Taro Ugen, vice president of consumer at Blockchain.com, says the product is designed around traders’ views on market direction, timing and risk size, while shifting much of the trading complexity into the background.

Our earlier Nasdaq 100 volatility analysis highlighted how concerns around AI supply chains and higher financing costs drove sharp swings, leaving the index capped below key moving averages despite a short-term rebound. The piece also flagged mixed momentum and oversold signals, with traders watching nearby resistance and support levels as potential triggers for the next directional move.
