Ethereum delays Hoodi Glamsterdam testnet upgrade
Ethereum developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, canceling the activation that had been scheduled for October 26, 2026. The delay gives core developers more time to examine how EIP-8037 interacts with mainnet smart contracts, while leaving Ethereum mainnet users and ETH holders unaffected.
Highlights
- Ethereum Foundation postponed the Hoodi Glamsterdam testnet upgrade, removing the planned October 26 activation for Amsterdam and Gloas layers.
- Core developers paused the gas-limit increase to 200 million and further study EIP-8037's interaction with mainnet smart contracts after ACDE #248.
- Node operators on Hoodi must update configurations before October 26, as the revised Hoodi schedule supersedes previous instructions and no new activation date is set.
Testnet schedule change and technical scope
As announced by Ethereum Foundation Blog, citing Ethereum Foundation, the revised Hoodi configuration removes the planned Amsterdam execution layer activation and Gloas consensus layer activation that had been set for October 26 at 17:42:48 UTC. No replacement activation epoch or timestamp has been set, and the updated notice supersedes the earlier Hoodi testnet schedule and activation instructions. The decision was taken by core developers during ACDE #248 to allow further investigation into the interaction of EIP-8037 with mainnet smart contracts. The change also removes the gas-limit schedule that would have increased Hoodi's gas limit to 200 million at the same epoch.
Ethereum said the update rolls back configuration for a future upgrade but does not revert Hoodi's chain history. New client releases reflecting the postponed activation are to be listed once they are confirmed.
Operational impact for node operators
Node operators and validators on Hoodi are being told to review both execution and consensus layer client instructions before October 26. Any software or custom network setup that still schedules Glamsterdam for the old activation time needs to be updated to match the revised Hoodi configuration. The foundation also said Hoodi testing should not be planned around the previous October 26 activation window, with a revised schedule to be announced separately. The announcement applies only to Hoodi and does not establish any Glamsterdam mainnet activation date.
In our earlier article on Houthi missile attacks and the resulting disruption in Saudi Arabia, we explained how strikes near Riyadh—including impacts on King Khalid International Airport—triggered heightened security concerns. We noted that the instability was already forcing postponements of major diplomatic, sporting, and business events and raising broader worries about logistics and economic knock-on effects.
