BNB Chain developers have unveiled plans for a new high-performance Layer 1 (L1) blockchain. The network will operate alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC), while BNB will remain the native token used to pay transaction fees and perform other operations.
According to the updated technical documentation, the new blockchain is currently known as New L1. It will be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and designed for applications that require high transaction speeds and minimal latency.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao commented on the initiative with the words "Multiple chains, one token," emphasizing that the project will not introduce a new cryptocurrency.
The existing BNB Smart Chain will continue supporting decentralized applications, trading platforms, and other services. Meanwhile, the new blockchain will handle transactions that require particularly fast execution.
Developers aim to reduce block times to 200 milliseconds and transaction pre-confirmation times to approximately 20 milliseconds. Final confirmation of transaction ordering is expected to take less than one second.
To improve performance, the network will introduce a Multi-Lane mechanism that allocates dedicated processing capacity to different types of transactions. The system will primarily target high-frequency trading, decentralized exchanges, and payment services.
The two blockchains will be connected through a dedicated bridge for asset transfers. BNB will remain the primary token for transaction fees, staking, and network governance.
The project is currently undergoing internal testing. Developers have already launched a network with multiple validators, while a public testnet is expected to become available by the end of 2026.
The mainnet launch is scheduled for early 2027. However, several components, including the cross-chain bridge and privacy tools for confidential transfers, still require further development and security audits.
The new project will continue BNB Chain's strategy of increasing infrastructure capacity. Developers previously set a target of 20,000 transactions per second through parallel transaction processing and other technical improvements.
Despite the large number of existing networks, launching new blockchains can still be worthwhile, especially when a major company with an established customer base and developed infrastructure is behind the project. One example is Robinhood Chain, launched in July 2026. By mid-September, its total value locked (TVL) had approached $1 billion, while daily trading volume on decentralized exchanges reached $1.88 billion.
Robinhood's success demonstrates that new blockchains can quickly attract users and liquidity even in a crowded market. However, much of the network's activity was driven by memecoin trading rather than the tokenized stocks it was originally designed to support. For Binance, launching a separate blockchain could similarly help expand its ecosystem, attract new financial applications, and increase demand for BNB without introducing another token.
As a reminder, Binance is planning to shut down its mining pool.
