US Dollar vs Swiss Franc trades down after investors adopt cautious stance before inflation data
Us dollar vs swiss franc slides 0.70%

US Dollar vs Swiss Franc (USD/CHF) moved lower as caution prevailed ahead of the US Consumer Price Index release and the pair lost momentum after retracing gains from earlier in the session. The move is reinforced by sellers maintaining pressure below the 20-day moving average, with technical signals keeping the short-term bias on the downside.

Highlights

  • The Swiss Franc reversed earlier gains against the Dollar as participants awaited the US Consumer Price Index data expected to guide Federal Reserve policy.
  • Geopolitical risks and expectations for US inflation have supported safe-haven demand for both the Swiss Franc and Dollar.
  • USD/CHF trades below the 20-day moving average at Fr.0.829 with technical indicators forming a sideways to slightly bullish bias and a 5-day range of Fr.0.8237 to Fr.0.8343.

Investor caution and safe-haven flows amid inflation anticipation

During the latest session, the Swiss Franc retraced initial gains against the Dollar as participants adopted a cautious stance before the upcoming US Consumer Price Index data. Anticipation over this key inflation report, which may influence Federal Reserve policy decisions, shaped sentiment. Additional support for both currencies' safe-haven appeal came from ongoing geopolitical factors and expectations around US inflation figures. The pair's recent activity reflected shifts in investor sentiment driven by US economic releases, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees the USD/CHF under persistent technical pressure. He highlights the inability to reclaim the 20-day moving average and notes an overbought CCI, signaling growing downside risk. Kharitonov believes sentiment remains fragile ahead of key US inflation data. He emphasizes that any bullish signals from MACD are overshadowed by the overall lack of bullish conviction. In his view, sellers are firmly in control and rallies above Fr.0.8307 risk rapid rejection. "Until we see sustained strength above the 20-day average, I expect further weakness and would remain cautious on fresh long positions," Kharitonov states.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, maintains a constructive outlook on USD/CHF. He sees the medium- and long-term bullish structure intact despite short-term consolidation. Karapetjanc points out that strong safe-haven demand and resilient technical indicators support further growth opportunities. He believes a break above Fr.0.8343 would spur additional upside in the coming sessions. "With market sentiment stabilizing and model probabilities favoring gains, I expect further progress for the pair as bullish setups emerge," Karapetjanc says.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, notes short-term volatility and mixed sentiment in USD/CHF post recent moves. He sees buyers trying to hold ground above key supports, while technical signals urge caution. Turakhiya believes intraday sentiment remains fluid as traders react to inflation data and shifting market expectations. He highlights the importance of the Fr.0.8281–Fr.0.8307 band for tactical setups. "For now, I see sideways action offering nimble opportunities, with clear triggers needed for directional conviction," says Turakhiya.

Mixed momentum signals as overbought levels clash with downside bias

USD/CHF is currently trading just below the 20-day moving average at Fr.0.8307, while remaining above the 50-day (Fr.0.8191) and 200-day (Fr.0.8014) moving averages. This setup keeps near-term downside pressure in place, despite medium- and long-term trends showing bullish confirmation. The Ichimoku Kijun at Fr.0.8281 acts as close support, with the immediate floor at Fr.0.8289 and ceiling at Fr.0.8307. Momentum indicators are mixed: MACD issues a strong buy signal, ADX points to further upside, RSI is firm at 65 (buying territory, not overbought), CCI shows the pair as overbought, and both Stochastic RSI and the Awesome Oscillator are neutral, indicating sideways movement. Bull/Bear Power suggests buyers dominate intraday, but the overbought CCI calls for some caution. The session features a 0.7% drop and intraday volatility at 1.09%, with the pair near its daily low and selling pressure in control.

Earlier, analysts noted that the US Dollar versus Swiss Franc was showing increasing downside risk amidst persistent selling pressure and cautious sentiment driven by US policy expectations. The current analysis adds a layer of nuance as mixed technical signals now introduce greater two-way risk, highlighting Fr.0.8343 as the key resistance level for a potential bullish reversal in the coming week.
