Highlights

  • USD/BRL is trading below all major moving averages, indicating downside pressure for short-, medium-, and long-term views.
  • Bearish momentum dominates as MACD and ADX are weak, while most oscillators are neutral with only slight intraday buyer interest.
  • The expected five-day range is R$5.0034 to R$5.1253, with a 60% probability of a downward move and a baseline scenario of sideways trading.
Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees technical fragility dominating the USD/BRL landscape. He notes the lack of supportive news flow and emphasizes the persistent pressure from bearish momentum indicators. Kharitonov argues that the alignment below all key moving averages points to a high risk of further losses. Divergence between short-term buyer signals and broader weakness raises doubts about any sustainable recovery. "Given the absence of fundamental catalysts and the clear technical downturn, I see little reason for optimism on USD/BRL in the near term," he says.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, recognizes that despite short-term selling, the broader bullish structure remains intact with the MA-50/MA-200 alignment. He points to the five-day volatility band as offering active traders various breakout opportunities. Karapetjanc emphasizes that sideways price action can set the stage for renewed upside if resistance is breached. He maintains a constructive stance, seeing any dip as a chance to position for a fresh rally. "With a disciplined approach, this market offers multiple setups for further growth if momentum shifts," Karapetjanc states.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, highlights the balanced outlook for USD/BRL with both bearish and neutral signals in play. He notes that intraday sentiment is fragile, but the current volatility range creates room for tactical trades on quick reversals. Turakhiya urges caution amid diverging indicators, advising focus on support and resistance for short-term setups. "Traders should watch the R$5.0034 and R$5.0685 levels for breakout cues while managing risk closely," he says.

Multiple moving average breakdown as bearish signals dominate

USD/BRL is trading below all major moving averages, with the current price of R$5.0644 under the 20-day (R$5.1061), 50-day (R$5.1259), and 200-day (R$5.1141) averages. This alignment signals short-, medium-, and long-term downside pressure, while the MA-50/MA-200 alignment remains bullish for the broader trend. Immediate resistance is seen at the near-term ceiling of R$5.0685, with support at the near-term floor of R$5.0034. Momentum indicators signal weakness: the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Average Directional Index (ADX) are both bearish. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is neutral near 50, indicating no strong overbought or oversold condition. The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) and Stochastic RSI are also neutral. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) shows a slight buyer advantage intraday, but the pair is under mild selling pressure overall. USD/BRL declined by R$0.0272 or 0.53% today, opening nearly flat and now trading near session lows. Intraday volatility stands at 0.85%. The tone is weak, with pressure evident after the open. There is divergence between BBP's modest buy signal and generally bearish momentum readings.

Earlier, analysts noted that USD/BRL was under persistent downside pressure as technical signals and option market flows contributed to a bearish bias. The current continuation of weakness, seen in both momentum indicators and price action below major moving averages, reinforces the bearish scenario, with traders advised to monitor the R$5.0034 support as a potential inflection point for further declines.
