  • Reserve Bank of India interventions and IMF policy guidance on exchange rate flexibility influence current market conditions and future rupee stability expectations.
  • USD/INR is forecast to consolidate between ₹94.4343 and ₹95.3833, with technical indicators showing mixed momentum and a 67% probability of an upward move.

Dollar supply grows as IPO inflows and RBI intervention ease pressure

Significant foreign currency inflows associated with Reliance Industries' Jio Platforms IPO have increased the supply of US dollars in the Indian market, easing upward pressure on the exchange rate, according to Rediff. Parallel intervention by the Reserve Bank of India, including steps to redirect oil-related dollar demand away from the spot market and adjusting hedging costs for importers, has further curbed immediate demand for dollars, as reported by Business Standard. Additionally, policy guidance from the International Monetary Fund, highlighted by Tribuneindia, emphasized the importance of a more flexible exchange rate to help India manage future oil shocks, which may influence longer-term expectations for rupee stability.

Overbought momentum signals as price tests long-term resistance

USD/INR is currently situated above the MA-20 at ₹94.4932 and MA-50 at ₹94.628, but remains just below the MA-200 at ₹94.9225. The Ichimoku Kijun level at ₹94.5514 serves as immediate support for the pair. On the momentum side, the RSI stands at 65.1045, while both Stochastic RSI and CCI indicate overbought conditions. ADX points to prevailing buyer strength, whereas MACD remains neutral; Bull/Bear Power also reflects buyer dominance. The presence of overbought oscillators alongside neutral MACD may suggest potential for short-term divergence.

Bullish bias holds as consolidation precedes potential breakout

USD/INR is expected to consolidate within a typical volatility band between ₹94.4343 and ₹95.3833 over the next two to three trading days. There is a 67% probability of an upward move, making further gains more likely than a reversal in the short run. The baseline scenario calls for range-bound action, but a bullish breakout above resistance could open the door to higher targets, while a move below immediate support would risk a deeper pullback.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees robust institutional flows and active central bank involvement as the key drivers behind the rupee’s current strength. He believes that persistent dollar inflows linked to major IPOs, along with strategic intervention from the Reserve Bank of India, have effectively stabilized the USD/INR rate. There is constructive sentiment for rupee stability in the short term, although longer-term dynamics could shift if IMF recommendations are implemented. The expert expects USD/INR to remain range-bound but recognizes upside potential if resistance is broken. "Strong macro inflows and decisive policy action give me confidence that short-term volatility will favor the rupee, while the market awaits further signals from policymakers."

Earlier, analysts noted that USD/INR faced persistent downside risks amid ongoing Reserve Bank of India interventions and seller dominance. The current context introduces substantial foreign capital inflows and targeted RBI measures that may limit near-term downside, making the reaction to any breakout above the 200-day moving average a pivotal signal for the next directional move.
