Highlights

  • USD/COP trades below key moving averages, indicating sustained weakness across short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes.
  • Momentum indicators such as MACD, ADX, and RSI align to a sell bias, with downside pressure likely to persist.
  • For the next five sessions, USD/COP is forecast to range between COL$3,149 and COL$3,210 with a 65% probability of a downward move.
Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees persistent bearish momentum in USD/COP, reinforced by confirmed technical weakness. He notes that the pair trades below all key moving averages, with momentum and trend indicators aligning toward more downside. The lack of supportive newsflows highlights negative sentiment and leaves the pair vulnerable to further selling. He stresses that intraday buyers have failed to lift the market, and near-term pullbacks are likely. "With no catalyst in sight and sellers in control, I view the downside risk as dominant for now," Kharitonov concludes.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, remains constructive despite the recent dip in USD/COP. He sees the current consolidation range as an opportunity for bullish setups if resistance at COL$3,195 and COL$3,210 breaks. Although news flow is absent, Karapetjanc believes market structure may support a reversal once technical barriers are cleared. "Given ample volatility and range-bound action, I expect further growth opportunities if buyers regain control above key ceilings," says Karapetjanc.
Jainam Mehta, market strategist, highlights the tactical implications of USD/COP’s break below key averages. He notes that intraday volatility and overbought signals could trigger short-lived rallies or contrarian moves. Mehta points out that range-bound consolidation offers traders potential setups for both breakouts and quick mean reversion plays. "A decisive move beyond either boundary — COL$3,210 or COL$3,149 — could unlock tactical trade opportunities," Mehta states.

Sustained sell bias as major moving averages and indicators align

USD/COP remains positioned below the 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages at COL$3,222, COL$3,195, and COL$3,422, respectively, signaling sustained pressure from sellers across short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes. The near-term ceiling is at COL$3,195, and immediate support sits near today's low at COL$3,176, with distant overhead levels confirming a bearish alignment. Momentum indicators suggest a weak undertone. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Average Directional Index (ADX) both reinforce a sell bias, supported by the Relative Strength Index (RSI) slipping into sell territory and the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) signaling further downside potential. Stochastic RSI remains neutral. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) shows buyers dominate intraday action but also flags the pair as overbought, indicating potential for near-term pullbacks. The Awesome Oscillator (AO) aligns with the sell trend. The pair trades at COL$3,180, down COL$16.15 or 0.51% on the session. The pair opened nearly flat and trades near the session low, with intraday volatility at 0.71%. Intraday dynamics point to further downside pressure following the open, in line with negative momentum signals.

Earlier, analysts noted that USD/COP was under sustained bearish pressure, with negative momentum indicators reinforcing a downside bias. The current analysis reaffirms this outlook, highlighting a prevailing bearish structure and suggesting traders should closely monitor the COL$3,149 level as a potential trigger for further declines.
