Eligibility rules and what delayed payments mean

People who keep working while collecting CPP are not penalized, and workers under 70 may continue building Post-Retirement Benefits.OAS is available to most Canadians aged 65 and older based on age and years lived in Canada after turning 18, rather than employment contributions. For the October to December 2026 quarter, the maximum monthly OAS payment is $762.50 for people aged 65 to 74 and $838.75 for those aged 75 and over, while GIS provides an added tax-free benefit for lower-income seniors, reaching as much as $1,138.90 a month depending on income and marital status.
Enrollment in OAS is often automatic through Service Canada, but people who do not receive a notice may need to apply through their My Service Canada Account. The federal government advises recipients to wait five to 10 business days before contacting the program if a direct deposit or cheque does not arrive on the listed payment date.
