Ifo survey shows firmer business expectations
As reported by Reuters, the Ifo institute says its business climate index rises to 90.2 in October from 89.9 in September, according to survey results published on Monday. The improvement is driven by more optimistic expectations, with the expectations index increasing to 91.6 from 90.4 a month earlier. The reading comes in above the forecast of analysts polled by Reuters, who expected the headline index to edge up to 90.0.
Current conditions still weigh on outlook
The survey also shows that companies assess their current situation as slightly worse than in the previous month. That component declines to 88.8 in October from 89.5 in September. The split between improving expectations and softer current conditions suggests that German businesses are looking past near-term weakness and becoming more confident about the months ahead.
