Constellation Brands sees sports-led U.S. beer demand rebound
Sports boost beer sales

After a slow start to 2026, Constellation Brands is seeing U.S. beer sales improve as major sports events draw more people to watch parties and other social gatherings. The pickup adds momentum for Corona Extra and Modelo Especial as brewers contend with weaker long-term demand linked to health trends, weight-loss drugs and pressure on household budgets.

Highlights

  • Constellation Brands' beer sales rose about 2% in the quarter ended May 31, marking a second consecutive quarterly gain after previous declines.
  • CEO Nicholas Fink attributed stronger consumption of Corona Extra and Modelo Especial to increased sports-driven social gatherings, including events like the NBA Finals and World Cup.
  • Analysts forecast further demand growth for beer through summer, citing the U.S.-hosted World Cup, the July Fourth holiday, international tourism, and heightened celebrations within Hispanic communities.

Quarterly sales gain amid event-driven demand

As reported by Reuters, Constellation said on Tuesday that improving demand for its beer portfolio helped lift quarterly results, with sales of brands including Corona Extra and Modelo Especial benefiting from stronger social consumption.

Beer sales rise about 2% in the three months ended May 31, marking a second straight quarter of gains after three quarters of declines. Chief executive Nicholas Fink says the energy around events such as the World Cup and the NBA Finals is helping create more beer-drinking occasions, especially in key markets including New York.

Fink points to crowds gathering to watch games projected on buildings in New York after the Knicks' title run, describing those moments as a clear driver of consumption for the company's beer business.

World Cup and holiday calendar support outlook

The broader beer industry is seeking relief from slowing demand as consumers shift toward healthier lifestyles, the growing use of weight-loss drugs and higher living costs weigh on spending. Against that backdrop, a packed calendar of sports and holiday events is providing a timely boost to group celebrations and at-home entertaining.

Suzy Davidkhanian, an analyst at eMarketer, says the combination of the U.S. hosting the World Cup, the Fourth of July holiday and celebrations tied to America's 250th anniversary is extending the period of social gatherings. She adds that international visitors are also expected to support consumption in World Cup host cities.

Hamish Campbell, drinks specialist at Denomination, says football enthusiasm within Hispanic communities is especially significant for Mexican beer brands. That dynamic is helping Corona and Modelo connect with a core customer base as fans celebrate in the U.S. and abroad.

In our earlier article on the USMCA review and extension deadline, we explained that if the three countries fail to agree on a 16-year renewal, the pact could shift into mandatory annual reviews—keeping long-term uncertainty high for businesses across the U.S., Mexico and Canada. We also noted that proposed tougher auto rules of origin and ongoing tariffs risk disrupting integrated North American supply chains and raising costs for manufacturers and workers.
