  • The new partnership with VEON positions Mastercard to accelerate digital financial service adoption and expand transaction volumes in emerging markets.
  • Technicals show strong bullish momentum with price at $538.6 and an expected near-term range of $523.25 to $553.95, though several indicators warn of overbought conditions.

Digital asset expansion as Mastercard joins Open USD consortium

Mastercard’s participation in a major consortium to launch Open USD, a stablecoin developed alongside Visa, Coinbase, Stripe, and over 135 companies, is enhancing the company’s role in digital asset infrastructure by aligning it with innovation in blockchain payments, according to Cryptobriefing. This move expands Mastercard’s access to new transaction flows and potential fee revenue, reinforcing its relevance in the rapidly evolving payments sector. Additionally, the recently announced collaboration with VEON to develop digital financial services in several emerging markets is set to broaden Mastercard’s presence and drive future usage growth.

Technical breakout confirmed amid strong overbought signals

On the hourly chart, MA trades above the MA-20 at $522.16 and MA-50 at $508.38, while the daily MA-200 sits lower at $531.34, confirming a technical breakout. The Ichimoku Kijun is at $519.89, marking immediate support. Intraday momentum is robust, with the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), Average Directional Index (ADX), Relative Strength Index (RSI), Stochastic RSI, and Awesome Oscillator all indicating strong buying or overbought conditions. Both the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) and Bull/Bear Power are in overbought territory, which may signal a potential for short-term exhaustion if momentum recedes.

Consolidation expected as volatility remains within set band

In the short term, MA is expected to remain within the $523.25 to $553.95 range over the next two to three sessions, representing a typical volatility band relative to current levels. The most probable scenario is a period of consolidation inside this range. Should resistance be broken with sustained momentum, further upside could materialize. If the price falls below immediate support, a corrective move may ensue, but the risk of a downside break currently remains low.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees Mastercard’s active entry into digital assets and its strategic expansion in emerging markets as major drivers for long-term growth. He believes recent partnerships are boosting the company’s relevance and fueling positive sentiment. Technical momentum is strong and supports the current breakout. "Mastercard’s positioning in both blockchain innovation and emerging market payments creates a compelling case for continued upside," says Karapetjanc.

Earlier, analysts noted that Mastercard was exhibiting sustained bullish momentum amid strategic digital asset initiatives and robust technical performance. The current combination of a confirmed breakout above long-term averages and fresh expansion into emerging markets indicates an improving outlook, with market participants advised to monitor for a sustained move beyond $553.95 as a potential signal of renewed upside.
