Families in the Northwest Territories are receiving higher Canada Child Benefit payments from July 20, 2026, as Ottawa increases tax-free support for households with children. The change affects nearly 4,500 families in the territory and adds to a program that already delivers more than $37 million there each year.

Updated payment levels for Northwest Territories families
As reported by Government of Canada, the enhanced Canada Child Benefit is now providing families with up to $8,157 per child under age 6 and up to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17.The increase amounts to as much as $160 more per child under 6 and up to $135 more per child aged 6 to 17 compared with the previous year. Minister Rebecca Alty, speaking on behalf of Secretary of State for Children and Youth Anna Gainey, highlights the continued delivery of tax-free support intended to help families manage costs such as groceries, clothing and child care.
