Anthropic is widening access to its Claude Startups program as it seeks to strengthen relationships with early-stage companies building with artificial intelligence tools. The move broadens a scheme launched in May and adds product credits, discounts and support aimed at startups founded in the last five years or funded within the last two years.
Highlights
- Anthropic expanded its Claude Startups program, offering thousands of participant companies up to $45,000 in discounts and credits plus $1,000 API credit and a year of Claude Team.
- The initiative increases startup access to Anthropic’s AI products as the company seeks to defend market share against competitors like OpenAI and Google, both of which have similar programs.
- Anthropic leverages the expanded program to deepen business customer relationships and embed Claude in startups ahead of an anticipated major IPO.
Program expansion and founder incentives
As reported by CNBC, Anthropic said on Tuesday that it is opening the Claude Startups program to more organizations, extending what the company describes as a push to work more closely with founders and fast-growing businesses.Thousands of companies are already participating in the program, according to Anthropic. Members can receive access to thousands of dollars in Claude products and credits to support development, while eligible organizations can obtain a one-time $1,000 application programming interface credit and a free year of Claude Team for up to five premium seats.
Anthropic said startups in the program can also receive as much as $45,000 in discounts and credits through the Claude Startup Stack, which it describes as a package of benefits tied to the tools a startup uses. Members are also able to meet the company's applied AI team through virtual office hours and connect with other startups at community events.
Competitive and revenue stakes
The expansion comes as Anthropic continues to rely heavily on business customers for most of its revenue and tries to defend its position against rivals including OpenAI and Google, which also offer startup-focused programs.Anthropic said it created the initiative because it believes the benefits of AI will reach most people through companies building on top of models rather than through the models alone. As the company prepares for what is widely expected to be a major IPO, the broader startup program supports its effort to embed Claude products in the next generation of businesses.
