BOX Exchange sets Q4 2026 short-term options qualifying securities list
BOX Q4 2026 options list

BOX Exchange has published the securities eligible for its short-term option series program for the fourth quarter of 2026, setting out the stocks and exchange-traded funds that meet its quarterly thresholds. The framework ties eligibility to market capitalization or assets under management, options trading volume, position limits and participation in the Penny Interval Program.

Highlights

  • BOX Exchange's Q4 2026 short-term options roster includes stocks such as Tesla, NVIDIA, Apple, Amazon.com, Meta Platforms, Broadcom, Alphabet, Micron Technology, SpaceX, AMD and Microsoft.
  • Qualifying securities require market caps above $700 billion for stocks or ETF AUM/volume thresholds, must meet position limits of at least 250,000 contracts and be in the Penny Interval Program.
  • The Q4 2026 list prioritizes names with deeper liquidity and event risk controls, impacting large-cap tech, leveraged, commodity, and fixed-income ETFs option strategies.

Eligibility rules and Q4 roster

As reported by BOX Exchange, qualifying securities under IM-5050-6 of Rule 5050 must be individual stocks or ETFs that meet size and liquidity thresholds measured at the end of the prior calendar quarter. For individual stocks, the rule requires market capitalization above $700 billion based on the closing price, while ETFs must meet assets under management thresholds based on net asset value, alongside minimum monthly options volume, a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts and participation in the Penny Interval Program.

The exchange says a qualifying security expiry is not listed on a day when an earnings announcement is scheduled after the market close. BOX also reassesses the criteria each calendar quarter to determine eligibility for the following quarter.

For Q4 2026, the individual stock list includes Tesla, NVIDIA, Apple, Amazon.com, Meta Platforms, Broadcom, Alphabet, Micron Technology, Space Exploration Technologies Corp., Advanced Micro Devices and Microsoft. The ETF group qualifying under the higher AUM tier includes SPDR Gold Trust, iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF and State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF, while the lower-tier ETF list includes iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF, iShares Silver Trust, ProShares UltraPro QQQ, Roundhill Memory ETF, VanEck Semiconductor ETF, State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF, VanEck Gold Miners ETF, iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF and iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF.

Market implications for options trading

The quarterly list shapes which heavily traded securities can support short-term option series on BOX, a feature used by traders seeking more precise exposure around market events and short-dated strategies. By linking eligibility to capitalization, fund size and recent options activity, the exchange concentrates the program on names with deeper liquidity and higher trading interest.

The mix for Q4 2026 points to continued demand in large-cap technology, leveraged products, commodity-linked ETFs and fixed-income funds. The earnings blackout condition also limits new short-term expiries on days with after-hours corporate results, reflecting risk controls around event-driven volatility.

Our earlier article on covered calls and cash-secured puts explained how investors can use options to generate premium income during volatile markets without abandoning core holdings. It also highlighted the key trade-offs—assignment risk, opportunity cost, and added complexity—underscoring why liquidity, timing, and event risk matter when using options-based tactics.
